someone spamming "so-and-so is giving away *insert item/gold here* pm them quick!" is always a friend or guildie playing a prank on that other person. just ignore it. they can't do anything to you even if you do pm them.

OP sorry that you had a bad encounter, but its status quo for gw....so most would suggest to just ignore players like that, and others say turn off you trade and chat channels....its a sad world we live in where this kind of stuff is the norm and not the exception.
but it does happen all the time, and you just need to learn to avoid them (I think you have learned that lesson now)...

goodluck.

Welcome to Guild Wars!

You've encountered some of the swine that plagues the GW community ATM.
Dont let them wear you down. Most people in the game are helpful, but in all societies there's always a few rotten apples.

Only solution is not to eat them

There are plenty of people on here who use the anonymity of the internet to spread ill will without fear of consequence. All that you can do is systematically identify and avoid those who people...and spend your time communing with those of us who are considerate and mature. Stick around and you will learn that there are a lot of good and decent people on here to counter the others.

Good fortune.

TANSTAAFL.

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

I personally have a mantra that everyone online is out to get me until they prove otherwise. I wouldn't even take free things from some random person giving me stuff because they were "Quitting". I would instead believe that they hacked the guys account and are giving you the items to kill two birds with one stone.

That's just how I am, and it saves all sorts of trouble such as this.

Of course, you have to let people prove themselves if you want to make friends online, but I start with a healthy dose of "They are out to get me."

Kuma, thats a good attitude (no sarcasm). You really do not know who the other person is on the other end. Make them prove themselves, but still dont give out private info.

To the OP, yea you will get wierd guys and jerks, but you have to ignore them, either with the ignore function or just ignore. By the way this isnt the last time you will encounter jerks in online games, there will be more. Just the nature of the beast.

You saw a player spamming in local that some guy was giving out free money, and you actually msged the guy, and thought he was really giving out money??

Come on. Use some common sense.

Well, I have a question, and I seek an answer.

It really bothers me that my first post on this forum is actually a complaint, but oh well, that is how it goes.

Anyway, just a few moments ago, I was just minding my business in Kaineng Center when somebody (forgot the name, dang) said that a player was quitting and gave him 40k and stuff.
He also told that he was giving away free stuff if we send him a personal message.
Having no money or good gear whatsoever, I figured "well, nothing to lose, I'll give it a shot."
While being against blatant begging, I tried a more indirect approach, hoping that the receiver of the message would like to give the odds and ends to a more literate player.
What I got in return was something I would never expect:
"keep it uop im taking snaphosts like i was told to do"
I asked what I had done wrong, but he replied with countless meaningless threats.
Then he told me that I was going to get banned, without giving me the reason why.

The thing is, there wasn't anything told in the Rules of Conduct about asking for things from another player who gives them away with no strings attached.

So, here I am, frustrated and angry, at the mercy the growing number of prepubescent kindergarten dropouts like him whom I am forced to call fellow players.

Also, another player told me to shut up after I publicly asked about the first player threatening other players.
It's sad that the game has no 16+ label.

Tell me, seriously, what did I do wrong?

from the sound of it he was just minding his own business when you pm him asking for his account.

In this game some people see a title under someones name and get jealous or angry so they spam or they are just angry people or one player pissed off the other, (xxx is given his account away to the first person to Pm him) or (xxxx has 20000 ectos and is given everyone that pm's him 10 each)

I have had the ecto one happen, I was just standing in town minding my own business looking in the storage and boom 1094780217849817324 wispers from people who keep demanding I give them ectos, just think how I reacted.

How would you react if it was you in his shoes getting the pm about your account? hmmm, did you not think about that?

He had every reason to be mad, he prolly got pm by a few hundren people asking for his account for no reason so he reacted in a very appropriate maner, SS and send in, he was just warning you that you could be banned for spaming him.

you are sure going off in your post but you forgot to add in common sense. People give item/accounts away to friends in their guild/alliance, not spaming it in a popular town.

next time you see somethin like that just ignore it.

I'd imagine after the first dozen pms you would be pissed off too. You won't get banned as you have done nothing wrong. But in the future, when some stranger says another stranger is giving away this and that, ignore it.

And everyone else who posted needs to learn to read. The guy Vodyara pm'ed is the victim here and the player telling him to shut up is just trying to defend that guy.

The OP has surely learned his lesson now...and many of us would probably have recognized that nobody is giving away coinage or mats to strangers, but that is beside the point. The guy who was PMed should have realized that the people who were PMing him were not at fault...but that the one who directed them to do so was.

So, the "victim" should have either ignored the PMs or just informed the people who were PMing him that he was not giving away any goods via general chat or direct response. Then, he reports the guy who created the problem and any others who continue to harass him.

Just going off on people who PM him was not warranted or necessary.

That is...if I have the complete story.

Good fortune.

If it's censored in text form, it's not wise to put it in image form; just a heads up.

Mostly...but not totally. I think that instead of normal person...it should start with "Sorry person". Because, there are some of us who behave the same online as we do in real life...but I suppose you could argue that we are not the "normal" ones.

I see a good majority of the people are putting down the person he pm'ed but seriously, I'm sure you'd all get annoyed if like 20 people pm'ed you asking for gold a crap because some jackass had a beef with you. Also, free gold? Really now, almost every case of someone leaving I've seen they keep things on their account in case they feel the need to play again. Nothing in life is free.

When every person and their grandmother, on a popular district decides to pm you at once, ignoring it isn't possible. Nor is trying to respond to each and every one of them that they were lied to and he's not giving anything away. Mind you, he could also be in an empty district and the person saying he's giving stuff away is in LA or Kam dis 1 spamming. Replying in all chat also has little effect. And by the time you've managed to stop the whispers from coming, your chat will have scrolled so far down, you won't know who you offended that started the griefing.

Could the victim have been more mature about it in his response, yes. Does he have to be, no. Welcome to the internet.
